In connection with the Quilting Heritage of Wayne County exhibit, a very special raffle will be held to benefit the Historical Society. Two beautifully crafted quilts have been generously donated to the Society for the raffle. Neither of these quilts is part of the Society's collection, but rather are gifts from WCHS members.
The first quilt, which was donated by Betty Garrison, is full bed size and is white embroidered in blue. The top was purchased at a bazaar held at Oak Chapel Church in 1999 and was quilted at a later date by women from the Wooster Methodist Church.
The second quilt, which measures 15 inches square, would be perfect as a wall-hanging or doll quilt. This lovely quilt was made by Dorothy Mishler in 2007 and was donated by her. The predominant colors in the miniature quilt are blue, green and violet with a center of solid colors and a printed batik fabric border. The pattern is pin wheels and petals.
Tickets may be purchased at the Society office, Tuesday thru Friday from noon to 5 P.M. The drawing for each of the donated quilts will be held on November 3, 2008.
During the exhibit, a quilt in progress will be set up in the dress shop for interested quilters. The 1930’s vintage Dresden squares were donated by Ann Neilson and assembled by Ann, Mary Eberhart and Ginny Gunn. If you enjoy quilting, please come and join the fun. The intention is to raffle this quilt next year after it is completed.
